來自芬蘭的Sonata Arctica，於1995年成立，初期團名為Tricky Beans，後更名為Tricky Means，最後定名為Sonata Arctica。初期團員為Tony Kakko (主唱兼鍵盤)、Marko Paasikoski (吉他)、Jani Liimatainen (吉他)、Pentti Peura (貝斯)與Tommy Portimo (鼓)，以Hard Rock為基調，發行三張Demo─《Friends Till The End》、《Agre Pamppers》與《PeaceMaker》。之後受到家鄉知名樂團Stratovarius的影響，確立樂團曲風為Melodic Power Metal，開啟了樂團的康莊大道。

1999年錄製Demo帶《FullMoon》後受到Spinefarm公司青睞而簽下唱片合約，當時打著Stratovarius接班人名號發行首張專輯《Ecliptica》，獲得樂評與樂迷一致好評，迅速累積樂迷與奠定基礎。2001年的《Silence》、2003年的《Winterheart's Guild》與2004年的「Reckoning Night」這三張專輯將Sonata Arctica推上頂點。他們在音樂的呈現上以多元的編曲與高亢的嗓音為賣點，持續思考音樂的豐富表現而非一成不變。2007年的《Unia》、2009年的《The Days Of Grays》與2012年的《Stones Grow Her Name》就是在更換樂手與音樂轉化下的產物，同樣也有好的表現！

2014年Sonata Arctica在首張專輯《Ecliptica》發行之後的15年思考樂團音樂的呈現為何，推出他們的第八張大碟《Pariah's Child》。專輯以狼當封面，新歌不同於前三張專輯，回歸原點之外，還加入了一些新元素。主唱Tony Kakko表示：「他們在樂界近20年時間能持續不錯的表現，團員們思考如何繼續保持下去而同時具有活力。」專輯首波屬打歌"The Wolves Die Young"嗅得到早期Sonata專輯的味道，同時也再度以狼當作新專輯故事的主軸；"Larger Than Life"是繼"The Power Of One"後超過10分鐘的長篇，有不少的轉折變化；小品"Love"會讓人聯想到"Tallulah"與"Shy"，而主唱Tony Kakko多變的唱腔會讓人想到Freddie Mercury (Queen主唱)、Andrew Lloyd Webber等人，新貝斯手Pasi Kauppinen加入後也表現不俗。Sonata Arctica出道近20年時間，喜愛歐式金屬的樂迷今年不容錯過《Pariah's Child》這張新專輯！
