請問第2句where後面為何不用接do ?
where後面的單字是何時才要接do這個助動詞?

因為後者中的WH-是接片語~

例子2中的where I wanted to go是noun clause
即是這堆文字是看為一個noun
如 I don't know where she lives.
     I don't know who she is.
使用noun clauses時, wh words之後就不須用inversion.
例: 問題: What time is it? < subject (it) 在 verb (is) 之後
     問題若改成: Could you please tell me what time it is now? < noun clause中, verb在subject後

第二句是不是可以說成
The driver asked me where to go?

Where does he come from? 這是一個問句
你問別人這句話，對方會根據你的問題提供答案給你
如：
A: Where does he come from?
B: He comes from the U.S.

The driver asked me where I wanted to go.這是一個間接問句（名詞子句的一種）
換成對話模式
Driver: Where do you want to go?
I: I want to go xxx.
換成描述過去事件
The driver asked me a question.  Where did I want to go?
把以上這兩句話合併成一句
The driver asked me where I wanted to go.

你一定發現原本問句當中的did不見了
因為在The driver asked me where I wanted to go.當中
where I wanted to go是一個問題內容的陳述
而非原本的問句
因此它才會改變原本問句的型態（把did 去掉，want根據時態加ed）

這樣解釋不知道能不能解決你的疑惑...
